IN MY BELLY

1. Kumquat Dry Soda. I had it at The Front Porch, but it looks like this guy Josh Spear makes it. http://www.joshspear.com/item/dry-soda/

2. The house-made mortadella at Quince. When I was a little food shortie back in the day, eating mortadella sandwiches out of my brown paper bag lunch, I thought the white parts were cheese. Oh dear, what I've learned.

3. Banana Crisps from Trader Joes. Not too sweet and not too thick.

4. Classic India Spice Tea. Yogi Tea makes it. My kind of spicy.

5. It's no secret that I love picholine olives. Whole Foods has them most of the time, so does Rainbow. No marinades or herbs, they are perfect in their firm, green nakedness. Ooh.

Always nice to find a fellow picholine fan. Have you tried them from Trader Joes? Not a place I shop too often, but when I do I make sure to stock up on jars of them-- at about $3 a jar they're the best I've found, firm not mushy, pit in (of course!), not crazy brined. Just a solid, humble workhorse of an olive at a good price. Sort of like Seabiscuit.

Haven't tried them in a jar! I usually find olives in a jar too mushy...but if you say they aren't then maybe I will try. Pit in is imperative...I mean part of the fun is gnawing every last bit of meat off that thing right?
Thanks for the tip.
