PESCHERIA

Valentine's Day is kinda silly right? I say that only until D forgets to give me a card, six dozen roses and a Whitman's sampler, then all hell breaks loose and it's suddenly the most important holiday ever.
Seriously, I already got the card, and we already got our Valentine's dinner out of the way, so I think I'm set for this year. By going tonight instead of tomorrow, when restaurants will be overcrowded, overpriced and overly unenjoyable, we managed to have a kickass dinner at a new spot called Pescheria. It's right around the corner from our house on Church at 29th, so I had some ideas regarding convenient post-dinner romance, but we ate too much and now he's sitting on the couch watching the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, and I'm writing this. Sexy!
I love Pescheria. It's a really casual vibe inside, but the quality of the fish (it's mostly seafood) and food in general is impressive. We started with some Sweetwaters from Hog Island (oysters in case you don't know what the hell I'm talking about) which were super fresh and beautifully presented with star anise and peppercorns sprinkled on the plate. After that we polished off some lemon-marinated tuna and yellow beets, stuffed clams, orrichette with wild mushrooms and finally an arctic char dish with a poached egg on top. You can see why we might not be feeling romantic after all that, oh, plus some cannoli and poached pear with mascarpone for dessert. Splurging for cupid!
Of course I forgot the camera, but I'm telling you, it was all good. The orrichette was our favorite dish if we had to pick. There were so many different types of wild mushrooms in there and some rapini, all noodling around in one of the best cream sauces I've had in a while, maybe ever. For a while I thought the alfredo sauce at Pasta Pomodoro was awesome, but I would never admit that in a nationally published and widely read blog! I trust you all to keep my secrets when I become famous.
Zzzzzzzz Good night. Spread some love tomorrow and always. It's Black History month too!
