Pigging Out at the Fair

Ah...the Marin County Fair. Where else can you find sheep dog trials, the Parade of Casseroles, Hambone Express pig racing, and blasts-from-the-past like KC and the Sunshine Band and the Village People?
D and I treated ourselves to a day of family fun last Sunday and it was just like old times. Although surrounded by the picturesque hills of Marin, it felt slightly less authentic than the North Carolina fair I experienced as a teenager, shotgunning Busch Light beers in the dusty parking lot before meeting up with delinquent friends to stuff ourselves silly and possibly throw up.

Despite the absence of country music, church-sponsored barbecue tents, and deep-fried candy bars, there was Hamburger Palace, Hot Dog Stick and the usual unnatural and indigestion-friendly foods. We managed to eat corn on the cob (dipped in a 5-gallon butter bucket), pepperoni pizza, an italian sausage sandwich, a tri-tip sandwich, garlic fries and a funnel cake. Oof. Pepto Bismol for the rest of the night, and our fair nostalgia satisfied until next year...
