INSPIRATION

Planning a wedding is no joke. It takes time y'know? But I'm still making time to eat at my favorites and discover new spots. Here's a quick rundown.

Discovery: BOCCALONE. Meat. That's pretty much it. Chris Cosentino, my local chef crush #1 has opened up shop in the Ferry Plaza building. See for yourself. Brown sugar and fennel salumi. You are not on a diet.

SPORK. Previously reviewed, but here's a pic of their "inside out" burger. That's cheese, meat, tomato, bun, meat. Cutesy but delish.
UNIVERSAL CAFE. Always solid. Ricotta and parsley raviolini with fresh peas and favas. Sea bass with corn and pesto. Bunuelos with chocolate and cream. What's a bunuelo? It's like a donut crossed with a yorkshire pudding. Classic. Just like Freddy Jackson.

GRILLING We've been going nuts. Buffalo, goat, corn, zucchini, you name it. Grilled buffalo is the "it" meat of the moment. It's lean and mellow, just like me.

Discovery: Denis Leary, local chef crush #2 has a new sandwich spot on New Montgomery called the SENTINEL. You better not be picky, cuz there's only three or four things on the menu. That's trust. We had a turkey salad sando and a roast beef one too. The horseradish sauce was epic. The apricots in the turkey salad were unexpected and much appreciated. Like winning the lottery. Which is gonna happen to me any day now.

One more thing..."I Like Killing Flies"...the movie. A documentary about a foul-mouthed restaurant owner/cook who's been at it for 30 years. It's a familiar story about the struggle between old-school work ethic and neighborhood loyalty vs. rent hikes and gentrification. Kinda like the current beef between Ice T and Soulja Boy. Entertaining.

Be careful with the illegal fireworks!!!
